Are you great at event planning, fundraising, marketing, program development, or public speaking? There’s a place for ‎you in the Birmingham Urban League Young Professionals! Our standing committees facilitate the programs and ‎services that we provide for the community. Our organization would be ineffective without the diverse and talented ‎individuals that support and serve through committee.‎



Community Service Committee


The BULYP has a commitment to engage our membership in volunteer activities such as youth mentoring and feeding ‎the homeless. The Community Services Committee creates, coordinates, and develops community service events for ‎the BULYP. Our most active committee, the Community Services Committee impacts the people in our community ‎through the different community service activities they ‎organize. The committee seeks members who are civic minded ‎with strengths or interests in public service and/or event planning.‎

Membership Services Committee


The strength of the BULYP is the dynamic, talented, dedicated, and energetic force that is our membership. One of our ‎hardest working committees, the Membership Services Committee is responsible recruiting potential members, serving ‎as the primary point of contact for our membership, coordinating the membership networking mixers and member ‎retention. The committee seeks dedicated members with strengths in data management, event planning, program ‎development and/or public speaking.‎

Fundraising Committee


The Birmingham Urban League Young Professionals (BULYP) primary mission is to support the programs and Services of the Birmingham Urban League and provide sustainable programs to the young professionals of Birmingham. The responsibilities of the Fundraising Committee are to create, coordinate, develop and plan Special ‎Events for the purpose of generating revenues for the BULYP. The committee seeks members who are creative with ‎strengths or interests in fundraising and/or event planning.‎

Economic Empowerment Committee

The National Urban League employs a five-point strategy to implement the mission of its movement. Economic ‎Empowerment is one of those strategies. Economic Empowerment invests in the financial literacy and employability of ‎adults through job training, homeownership and entrepreneurship. The Economic Empowerment Committee is charged ‎with implementing the BULYP economic and financial literacy seminars in order to equip the community with the ‎necessary knowledge that will assist them in making educated and strategic decisions about their personal finances. ‎The committee seeks members with strengths or interests in financial education, entrepreneurship and/or event ‎planning.‎

Public Relations and Communications Committee


The BULYP uses every resource available to reach the community and the spread the word about the ‘movement’ and ‎the mission of the Birmingham Urban League. This Public Relations and Communications Committee is responsible for ‎developing and disseminating information about BULYP to internal and external audiences. They are responsible for ‎marketing and promoting the Birmingham Urban League Young Professionals. The committee seeks members with ‎strengths or interests in marketing, promotions, social networking, blogging, journalism, web development, and/or ‎public relations.‎
